Brief advocacy break.
(Sorry for the lack of photos for the last couple of weeks…more coming! We are still walking.)
We’ve walked over 200 miles now of Portland’s streets. There’s a lot to love, but there’s a lot to do to make them safer.
And we’ve hardly ventured out to the wider, faster arterials of east Portland, where crossing the “street” sometimes means dashing across a 5-lane-highway.
The City Council could spend $1 million very soon to create 15 new safer crossings, mostly in east Portland (a few in SW Portland as well). It’s not enough, but it’s a start.
If you live in Portland, can you take a moment to remind City Council why you think this is important? You may never go to East Portland, you may never cross these streets, but everyday, people do. They deserve safer places to do so.
The good folks at Oregon Walks have even created a ready-made email for you to do so (though it always helps to tell your own story).
Please reblog, and thanks.
